Day at the Dump

Day at the Dump

Based on a former landfill site, our unique site is a great place for your class to get inspired to think more about living sustainably.

This day includes an eye-opening tour of the site plus some exciting activities linked to the 3 Rs and sustainability.

The tour includes:

  • Waste Tunnel: View a slice through the capped landfill and experience the history of waste on our site across four decades.

  • Weighbridge and waste Transfer Station: See where your rubbish goes after it is collected from your home and find out what happens next.

  • Large-scale composting facility: Find out how garden waste is recycled with the help of some teeny-tiny creatures.

  • Capped landfill: See how much wildlife you can spot living within the nature reserve that is now on top of the old landfill!

Then choose one of the following activity options:

For Yr 3&4:

3Rs fun:  We reinforce learning with some fun games linked to each of the 3Rs including Reduce 'snap', a Reuse team challenge and Recycling Relay.  Then make a plastic bread-bag kite to take home!

For Year 5&6:

3Rs fun:  We reinforce learning with some fun games linked to each of the 3Rs including Reduce 'snap', a Reuse team challenge and Recycling Relay.  Then make a paper-bead wristband to take home!
