Day at the Dump
Based on a former landfill site, our unique site is a great place for your class to get inspired to think more about living sustainably.
This day includes an eye-opening tour of the site plus some exciting activities linked to the 3 Rs and sustainability.
The tour includes:
- Waste Tunnel: View a slice through the capped landfill and experience the history of waste on our site across four decades.
- Weighbridge and waste Transfer Station: See where your rubbish goes after it is collected from your home and find out what happens next.
- Large-scale composting facility: Find out how garden waste is recycled with the help of some teeny-tiny creatures.
- Capped landfill: See how much wildlife you can spot living within the nature reserve that is now on top of the old landfill!
Then choose one of the following activity options:
For Yr 3&4:
3Rs fun: We reinforce learning with some fun games linked to each of the 3Rs including Reduce 'snap', a Reuse team challenge and Recycling Relay. Then make a plastic bread-bag kite to take home!
For Year 5&6:
3Rs fun: We reinforce learning with some fun games linked to each of the 3Rs including Reduce 'snap', a Reuse team challenge and Recycling Relay. Then make a paper-bead wristband to take home!
Waste Odyssey: Travel into the future to see the impact that landfilling rubbish has had on the world in 2100. What lessons can we learn from this?
