Carymoor and Somerset Waste Partnership are very pleased to announce that from 1st February 2018 we can offer Somerset primary schools a FREE visit to promote the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ message in school. Carymoor’s education team can come into your school and run a half day of activities to help raise awareness amongst children and staff.
A free half day visit - including an assembly and 2 x 1 hour Curriculum linked workshops.
Practical advice and support to help your school waste less and recycle more.
All of our sessions are linked to the curriculum and will be practical and fun, giving children a better understanding of waste and recycling issues. We are able to offer these free visits thanks to funding from Somerset Waste Partnership, who provide waste and recycling services to households in Somerset.
Our Talking Rubbish assembly will introduce the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ message. This is an interactive presentation to the whole school.
We are happy to work with one class at a time for each of the two workshops and can work with 2 classes of your choosing during the half day.
These are the workshop choices we can offer:
This workshop will be an extension from the assembly and include a recycling relay, material sort and a story.
Wigglebert the Worm
Discover how to turn some food waste into compost with the help of Wigglebert and his wiggly friends. Activities would include investigating worms in a table-top wormery, planting cress seed in a plant pot made from reused newspaper.
2100, A Waste Odyssey
A fun workshop looking at how our actions now, could cause major environmental problems in the future. Children think about the preventative measures that we should currently be working on. (Year 5/6)
Children develop an understanding of the range of resources consumed to supply us with food (e.g. fuel, energy, water, packaging materials) and the impact this can have on the environment. (Year 3-6)
We also have a fantastic food waste resource pack, full of ideas and activities to run in school. You can download our Food Waste Education Pack for KS2 at the bottom of this page.
In this session children will explore the impact of plastics on our environment and consider alternatives. This session will involve a making activity for the children to take home which can be either a mini-greenhouse or a dove. (Year 3-6)
In addition to the workshops we can also spend time with school staff to review current recycling facilities and see where improvements can be made. We can provide practical advice and help.
Carymoor’s education team are experienced teachers and are all DBS checked.
