Wild Days Out

Wild Days Out (EYFS + KS1):

We use our extensive range of habitats and wildlife to give children a WILD time and help them gain a deeper understanding of the natural world. Our interactive sessions use a variety of approaches such as games, trails, crafts and guided exploration. Most activities take place outdoors, with indoor options available for inclement weather.

To make the most of your day it is best if you can spend at least four hours at Carymoor, but the longer the better really!

For your WILD DAY OUT at Carymoor, choose two of the following half-day sessions:

Wildlife Detectives: We use our senses to explore part of our nature reserve and hunt for clues and evidence of the creatures living at Carymoor. An exciting discovery walk with lots to see and hear whatever the season. Short activities along the way help enhance your experience, including making a crafty caterpillar to take home!

Marvellous Minibeasts: Explore some of Carymoor's wildlife habitats and investigate the small creatures living there: Careful capture techniques enable us to take a closer look and compare their different lifestyles. Find out who lives where, who eats who and how different minibeasts stop themselves being eaten! A mixture of hands-on exploration, games and discussion encourage learning in a fun and informal way. Plus during the second half of the summer term there is also the chance to visit our Observational Bee Hive for a closer look at life as a honey bee! Watch the different duties performed by bees, see the structure of the hive, learn about bee lifecycles, honey production, honey-combe and more! Subject to availability and time available, please ask a member of our team when making your booking.

Carymoor Crafts: Carymoor's nature reserve has a wealth of natural materials that are perfect for crafty creations! We will show you how to bend our home-grown willow into a beautiful butterfly or dragonfly and then help you use Carymoor clay and leaves, seeds, stems etc to create your own wild creatures: Will they be marvellous minibeasts, mega mammals or fiendish fantasy-beasts?! Your creations will then be gathered/boxed-up ready for you to take back to school. Please note that for Carymoor Crafts sessions there is an additional charge for materials and preparation of £20 per class.

Taking Shelter: All creatures need a safe place to sleep and rear their young: We think about where the wild animals at Carymoor take shelter, visit our replica Iron Age Round-House for some tips on building with natural materials and then construct some shelters of our own using willow grown on site- will they survive our watering-can rainstorm?!

Flower Power: Carymoor is the perfect place to explore all things leafy! Tailored to the season this session involves plant-based games, guided exploration and green-fingered activities, using our beautiful wildflower collection and wider nature reserve. Activities may include: going on a plant bingo walk, playing our active build a plant game and planting some seeds in an eco-friendly plant pot to take home!
