Plant Detectives Day

Discover more about the fascinating world of plants as we journey through the lifecycle of a plant in one day!

 

With fun, lively activities tailored to the season our Plant Detectives days are ideal for Year 3 or a mixed Year 3&4 Class as they cover parts of Year 3 National Curriculum Science.

 

Spring/Summer Activities

 

Our focus in Spring and Summer is pollination, including flower shape, insect pollinators and plant structure.

 

Activities include:

  • Our fun and interactive pollination ‘dress up’ activity.
  • Learn how to identify some common British wildflowers in a fun run-around ID key.
  • Plant bingo walk.
  • Simple flower dissection (May-July).
  • Flower shape and pollinator match up challenge.
  • Make paper potters and plant seeds to nurture at school.
  • Play our fun germination game!

 

If you are visiting us in May, June or July you may also want to include a trip to our Observational Bee Hive, please ask when booking and we will do our best to include this in your day.

 

Autumn Activities:

 

Our focus in Autumn is seeds and seed dispersal, including comparing different types of seeds, nuts and berries and how this relates to their dispersal mechanisms, as well as their importance for wildlife.

 

Activities include:

  • Our fun and interactive pollination ‘dress up’ activity.
  • Learning how to identify some common British wildflowers in a fun run-around ID key 
  • Seed dispersal bingo 
  • Make paper ‘helicopter’ seeds and investigate wind dispersal
  • Nut and berry wildlife match-up challenge: who eats what?
  • Make paper potters and plant seeds to nurture at school
  • Play our fun germination game!

 

This day is ideal for Year 3 or mixed Year 3 & 4 classes as it covers parts of Year 3 National Curriculum Science.

 

This day is in Price Band 1.
