Biffa sponsors Carymoor Environmental Trust to promote Sustainability and Environmental Education

Carymoor is delighted to celebrate its ongoing sponsorship from Biffa, the leading UK waste management and recycling company. Biffa’s commitment to Carymoor has helped to support the environmental charity with its ongoing drive to encourage people to live more sustainably and to enjoy the many benefits of spending time in nature.

Carymoor works with schools, families and community groups and gives them a first-hand experience of the natural world from its unique nature reserve near Castle Cary. Over 25 years Carymoor has transformed the capped landfill site into an incredible nature reserve. The site is the base for the Trust’s environmental education programmes with over 4000 people benefitting from the various education programmes each year.

The Trust offers school visits, outreach visits to schools through its Schools Against Waste project, and courses, which educate young people and the local community about the importance of recycling, waste reduction, and nature conservation. Local volunteers play a big part in supporting Carymoor’s work, supporting the management of the nature reserve and recording over 6500 hours of time a year.

Biffa’s partnership with Carymoor is part of a broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. The company is dedicated to making a tangible, positive impact on the communities it serves. This collaboration aligns perfectly with Biffa’s mission to lead the way in the UK’s transition to a circular economy, by offering sustainable waste management services and advancing recycling technologies.

“Carymoor Environmental Trust shares Biffa’s vision for a sustainable future, and we are excited to support their incredible work,” said Rachel Fisher at Biffa. “Environmental education is key to creating long-lasting change, and we’re proud to be part of this initiative. Together, we can inspire the next generation to make environmentally conscious decisions.”

“We are so grateful to have a partnership with Biffa who believe and support Carymoor’s ethos,” said Rupert Farthing, Chief Executive of Carymoor Environmental Trust. “Their support will enable us to continue delivering high-quality, impactful education, helping people of all ages to understand the importance of sustainability in their daily lives.”

  • "I felt so welcome and there was an amazing atmosphere at Carymoor. I felt a wonderful sense of belonging. My life has changed beyond anything I could have imagined since I came along to a course and subsequently became a volunteer. I could never thank you enough.’

  • I am proud of what we achieved on the day and my confidence in my abilities is now much higher. I left site with a huge sense of satisfaction. Even now, a few days further on, I marvel at how I was able to create such a challenging, beautiful piece of work that is robust and useful too.

  • I was so impressed with what I had made and really inspired to work more with willow and make more baskets. I haven’t felt this motivated to craft in years!

  • I just had to email you to thank you all for such a truly fabulous day. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and perfectly prepared for all the activities. The children learnt a huge amount and could not stop talking about it on the way home - 'best trip ever' was repeatedly heard!
