Funded by Somerset Community Foundation and the National Lottery Reaching Community Fund, and with some super help from our volunteers and Able2Achieve learners, we are thrilled to finally have our new accessible toilet block finally in use.

The new modern and well equipped toilet block represents a significant improvement in our facilities at Carymoor and improves our capacity to work with adults with learning disabilities and people with mobility issues, as well as having improved facilities for all our regular volunteer groups and adults visiting us for courses.  The new facilities means we can have a seperation of areas with visiting schools using the facilities in the main building.

Having a second easy access toilet is a good step forward and helps to support our 5 year funded project from Reaching Communities working with adults with learning disabilities from Able2Achieve and The Hub. This was a development that our steering group for adults with learning disabilities requested and something that came from the learners we work with.

Staff, volunteers and learners from Able2Achieve worked really hard in challenging conditions during the winter, to cut back the bank, level the ground, lay concrete block foundations and lay down eco grid to supress weeds.

Joe Knights, Learning Developer at Able2Achieve has said: 'The old toilet block had started to look a bit old and dingy. For some individuals, cleanliness is an important part of their daily routine, so having a modern, brighter, easier to clean toilet removes a big barrier to engagement for these individuals. In terms of the new toilets impact, they provide an accessible, modern toileting facility for our Learners.  The Learners love coming to Carymoor, the only negative feedback has been regarding the old toilet block, and not only has this feedback been listened to, the new toilets have been acquired taking the Learners needs into account. With the new block being at ground level and spacious, it makes Carymoor even more accessible to those with mobility issues.'
