An Introduction to Hedge Laying

An introduction to the traditional hedgerow management skill of hedge laying.

Starts: 10th Dec 2021 to 17th Dec 2021

Friday 10th and Friday 17th December from 10am-4pm each day.  This is a FREE 2 day course. 


Hedgerows play a vital role in our countryside, providing a shelter for wildlife and enabling a whole range of species to move through the landscape.


Find out about the benefits of good hedgerow management, a brief history of hedges and the varying regional hedge laying styles. The course will involve practicing safe hedge laying techniques and surveying hedges on our unique nature reserve. No previous experience is required. 


What to expect:

  • A small group of maximum of 4 people.
  • The session will be led by Carymoor's Community Ranger, Neil Gemmell.
  • Most activities will take place outdoors.
  • Please bring your own lunch and refreshments

All participants must be aged 19 or over and be a Somerset resident. This is a free course funded by SS&L.
