Stone Age History Day

Come and experience life in Stone Age Britain! Dress up in our imitation ‘animal skin’ tunics and step back in time as you take part in a variety of exciting activities such as:

  • Examining some stone age artefacts.
  • Getting resourceful with materials to build nomadic-style shelters.
  • Trying some ancient fire-lighting techniques.
  • Honing your animal tracking skills with our footprints of the past orienteering course.
  • “Foraging” for a Stone Age feast with our hunter-gatherer game: would your wild harvest feed or kill you?!

National Curriculum Links:

  • KS2 History: Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age (throughout day); Historical enquiry skills (artefacts and footprints of the past activities)
  • KS2 Physical Education:  Take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team (orienteering, shelter-building)
  • KS2 Geography: Geographical skills and fieldwork (orienteering)

    Feedback

They loved it from the initial dressing up to the footprints. Even the 1:1 joined in with class activities which doesn’t happen in the school environment.

    Feedback

    • In more than 20 years of teaching this was the best trip I have ever taken children on – educational, fun and inspirational!

    • We had a superb day, Natalie was very accommodating with our timetable as we arrived late. We started with the hunter gatherer games to burn off some post coach energy. We loved dressing up and examining the artefacts. The children absolutely loved the quern stones, fire lighting and shelter building. Nothing but positive things to say. Staff and volunteers amazing - thank you.

    • We have been coming to Carymoor for many years and they never disappoint. The staff are all incredibly friendly, accommodating and flexible. We have enjoyed a wide range of activities which are all carefully planned and resourced and, most importantly, loved by the children. Thank you Carymoor and we look forward to seeing you next year!

    • I just had to email you to thank you all for such a truly fabulous day. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and perfectly prepared for all the activities. The children learnt a huge amount and could not stop talking about it on the way home - 'best trip ever' was repeatedly heard!
