Renewable Energy Links

This page contains a variety of links for further information on renewable energy.

Trade Associations:

http://www.bwea.org/ - British Wind Energy Association, also covers some other renewable energy technologies such as wave and tidal.

http://www.british-hydro.org/index.asp - British hydro-power association.

http://www.r-p-a.org.uk/home.fcm?subsite=1 - The Renewable Energy Association. Formerly the renewable power association, this site carries information on all renewables but is especially useful for biofuels.

http://www.greenenergy.org.uk/pvuk2/ - British Photovoltaic Association.

Government Websites:

http://www.somerset.gov.uk/somerset/ete/sustdev/renewable/ - Somerset County Council renewables website.

http://www.dti.gov.uk/energy/ - Department of Trade and Industry energy pages. This site provides documents on government energy policy.

http://www.dti.gov.uk/renewables/ - Department of Trade and Industry renewables information.

http://www.dti.gov.uk/renewables/technologies/windspeed/online.html - The DTI provide this online database to estimate the wind speed in your area. Note that this gives an average speed for the area where you live, so should be used as a guide only.

Grants:

http://www.est.org.uk/ - Energy Saving Trust. Manage grants for PV systems and have information on energy conservation and renewables.

http://www.clear-skies.org/ - Former site for government renewable energy grants. The scheme has now closed, but this site will provide a link to the new scheme expected in April 2006.

Others:

http://www.retscreen.net/ - Canadian website with free energy modelling software to assess potential energy generation from renewables. This is indicative only, but a good way to check if a more detailed assessment is worth undertaking.

http://www.cse.org.uk/ - Centre for Sustainable Energy, a local organisation promoting energy conservation and renewable energy.

http://www.cat.org.uk/ - Centre for Alternative Technology. Showcases renewables and ecological building practices. Also runs courses and has a useful shop for books etc.

Campaigning:

http://www.ref.org.uk/index.html - Renewable Energy Foundation. Supports some renewable energy but campaigns against wind farm development.

http://www.countryguardian.net/ - Campaign against wind farms in the countryside.

http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/ - Campaign for renewable energy.

http://www.foe.org.uk/index.html - Campaign for renewable energy.

http://www.rspb.org.uk/policy/windfarms/index.asp - RSPB position on wind farms.

Energy Suppliers:

http://www.greenelectricity.org/ - Gives details of green tariff electricity suppliers.

http://www.uswitch.com/Energy/Green-Energy.html?ref=&ReturnURL=%2FEnergy%2FIndex%2Easp%3Fref%3D - Website comparing electricity tariffs, and includes a section on green tariff suppliers.
