Autumn/winter programme for pre-school and key stage 1 groups.

Following a highly successful first year these popular and well received wildlife-themed days will continue throughout the 2009/2010 school year. Bookings are already being taken and as places are limited we would advise booking well ahead.

Aimed at foundation and key stage 1 groups, but also suitable for key stage 2, Carymoor's team of experienced field teachers deliver exciting, hands-on days out using the extensive range of habitats and wildlife found at Carymoor. Activities on offer will change with the seasons and will be based around themes including minibeasts, the senses and colour and shape, using a variety of activities including guided walks, trails, games and arts & crafts. The days consist mostly of outdoor work but with indoor activities available for inclement weather. The exact programme for your day can be tailored to the needs of your group. Early booking is advised as spaces will be limited.

' The best school trip ever' Children from South Petherton Infants

'The day was fun and educational and was so well organised that the adults could enjoy themselves too.' Teachers, South Petherton Infants

Carymoor Crafts : Minibeast Mayhem: Sensory Sensations : Wildlife Detectives: Beaks, Feet and Wings

Carymoor Crafts
Use clay dug on site to make a hibernating hedgehog each, decorated with natural materials, then use our homegrown willow to construct a dragonfly each to take home.

Minibeast Mayhem
Use the range of habitats on site to discover who lives where and ' who's lunch am I?' A chance to play our special Bug Bingo game - which group can be first to get a full house of minibeasts?

Sensory Sensations
Using our all-year sensory garden to explore how our senses help us to survive. Try 'tasting' food with your feet - like a butterfly, or following directions to flowers like a bee.

Wildlife Detectives
A discovery walk around the site, finding clues and evidence of the creatures who share Carymoor with us. This varies with the seasons, but there is always lots to see and hear.

Beaks, Feet and Wings
Discover the many adaptations of British birds through observations, activities and games. This includes a chance to use our heated bird hide with its one-way glass for close views of garden visitors
