Wild Days Out

Spring/summer programme for pre-school and key stage 1 groups.

From September 2008 the centre will be offering a programme of wildlife themed days to run alongside the existing and highly successful waste education programme. Aimed at foundation and key stage 1 groups, but also suitable for key stage 2, Carymoor's team of experienced field teachers will deliver exciting, hands-on days out using the extensive range of habitats and wildlife found at Carymoor. Activities on offer will change with the seasons and will be based around themes including minibeasts, the senses and colour and shape, using a variety of activities including guided walks, trails, games and arts & crafts. The days consist mostly of outdoor work but with indoor activities available for inclement weather. The exact programme for your day can be tailored to the needs of your group. Early booking is advised as spaces will be limited.

Carymoor Crafts : Bird Gardening : Minibeast Mayhem: Sensory Sensations : Wildlife Detectives

Carymoor Crafts
Use clay dug on site to make a hibernating hedgehog each, decorated with natural materials, then use our homegrown willow to construct a dragonfly each to take home.

You have the option of harvesting your day's materials on site first if you wish.

Bird Gardening
Play the 'build a bird garden' game then see how many features you can recognise in our bird garden. Watch the birds from the comfort of our heated bird hide with its one-way glass.

Minibeast Mayhem
Use the range of specially created habitats in our Minibeast Metropolis to discover who lives where and ' who's lunch am I?'

Sensory Sensations
Using our all-year sensory garden to explore how our senses help us to survive. Try 'tasting' food with your feet - like a butterfly!

Wildlife Detectives
A discovery walk around the site, finding clues and evidence of the creatures who share Carymoor with us.
