1st March 2012: Spring has sprung! Lots of frogspawn and toadspawn in local ponds, and lots of toads to be seen. We even counted five newts of two different species (smooth and palmate) in the small pond in our sensory garden. |

29th Feb 2012: A lovely sunny spring day. Saw my first peacock butterfly of the year! Peacocks are one of the few British species that hibernate over winter as adults, so along with Brimstones, Commas, and Small Tortoiseshells are one of the first butterflies to be seen each year; a very welcome sight that tells us spring is on its way. |
