Education in Your School

Create your own bespoke Pick and Mix Day by combining choices from any of the workshop and assembly options below. A full day includes an assembly plus up to four workshops, while a half day is an assembly plus two workshops. Alternatively we can run a themed Action Day for you using the sessions below.

Key Stage 1

     Talking Rubbish (1 - 1.5 hours)

  A hands-on introduction to waste issues and the 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), including our 'Reduce Snap!', 'Sort it!' and 'What's it made of?' games.
         
  Elephants Never Forget (1.5 hours)

  Elmer the elephant's Indian cousin Dev has come to stay. Follow their story as they discover what humans do with rubbish and learn about an interesting type of recycling using waste made by elephants! Re-use an old plastic bottle to make your own mini elephant.
         
  Energy Explorers (1 - 1.5 hours)

  Hunt for wasted energy around the school and find out how you can save energy. Put your building skills to the test by making a circuit powered by renewable energy.
         
  Wigglebert Worm and Friends (1 - 1.5 hours)

  Discover how to make and use compost with the help of Wigglebert and his wiggly friends! Investigate worms in our table-top wormery, and plant your own compost character!

  Experience recycling in action! Discover how paper is recycled and make your own beautiful recycled paper. In longer sessions we also make fun hand-print bugs (KS1) or fabulous paper bead wrist bands (KS2).
         
  Bin Busters! (variable duration)

  Working with a lead class or your school 'green-team' we help sort, weigh and record the waste created by the whole school during either one lunchtime or one school day. Best for upper KS1 and KS2.

Flowers & pollination lesson plan pdf
  Our fun plant-themed games, investigations and crafts will bring to life the seasonal plant cycle, regardless of the time of year. Choose from 'Star-struck by seeds and fruit', 'Grabbed by germination and growth' or 'Fired up by flowers and pollination' OR take the whole day to do all 3 sessions.
         
  Creature Feature Workshops (1 hour)   We are now offering a variety of exciting new outreach workshops focussing on creating wildlife habitats for your school grounds and/or ways to observe wild creatures more closely. Choices include Grass Caterpillars, Bee B&B's, Leaf Litter Critters, Minibeast Hotels, Wormeries, Paper Potters, Bird Boxes or Willow Bird feeders. All activities use natural or recycled materials and we encourage pupils to help to collect some of these themselves. There is something suitable for all year groups, meaning you can choose to involve the whole school in a Creature-Feature Eco Day! Contact us for further details and to discuss your needs.
         
  Wild Days IN! (half-whole day)   We can now bring all the fun of a Carymoor Wild Day Out into your school! Using your school grounds, plus resources, props and even creatures from Carymoor, we'll get your pupils buzzing about the outdoors! Our wild themes include Minibeast Mayhem; Sensory Sensations; Carymoor Crafts; Beaks, Feet and Wings; and Taking Shelter and involve a mixture of trails, games, craft and discovery. Contact us to discuss your needs and we will tailor our activities accordingly (we may need to visit your grounds beforehand to plan our delivery).
         
  Green Christmas Crafts (1-2 hours depending on activity choices)   In these special seasonal workshops we'll be having fun with natural and/ or scrap materials as we transform them into beautiful festive creations! Festive activities could include making teasel reindeer, willow lanterns, baubles from old Christmas cards or even gifts for wildlife! We can organise activities suitable for all year groups, meaning you can choose to involve the whole school in a Green Christmas Eco Day! Key Stage 2

     The Waste Free Lunch Game (1 hour)

  Is Plastic Fantastic? (1.5 - 2 hours)

  Explore the impact of plastics on our environment and get creative with plastics: Transform an old plastic bottle into a fun windmill!
         
  Speak Up! (1 hour)

  Time for your class to get into character! Work in groups to debate a controversial waste issue in your local community.

  Engineer a more sustainable future. Harness the power of the sun by making a solar oven or convert the solar power into electricity using solar cells and power a mini boat! Cloudy / wet weather alternatives are available!
         
  Compost Critters (1 - 1.5 hours)

  Delve into compost and get up close to the critters living amongst it! Find out how they help make compost, how to provide them with a good compost bin habitat and in turn make great compost to use in the school garden. Make a plastic bottle mini-greenhouse or newspaper plant pot and plant some seeds to nurture.
         
  Trash to treasure! (1 - 1.5 hours)

  Find out how rubbish is re-used creatively around the world and put this into practice with your own rubbish: Juice cartons become funky wallets or for year 5/6 children plastic bags morph into footballs!
         
  Big foot? (1 - 1.5 hours)

  Investigate the far-reaching impact of an everyday product by exploring its eco-footprint in this hands-on, thought provoking activity. This session is most suitable for upper KS2.

  Leafy assembly (20 mins)   A fun, interactive introduction to your day of leafy lessons!
         
  Compost assembly (20 mins)   Find out how to put composting into action at school and care for your garden at the same time in this fun, interactive assembly.
         
  Worldly Waste assembly (20 mins)   An exciting look at how rubbish is dealt with around the world: How does this compare with what we do with OUR waste? What can we learn from people living in other countries?
