Weather notes April 2008

April was a miserable month, with rain nearly every day except for brief respites on 15th to 17th and 25th to 27th. It was more wintry than the winter, with snow or soft hail on the 5th, 6th and 7th. The total precipitation was 62mm, or about 15% more than average. It was also remarkably cold. Though day temperatures climbed to about 19°, the nights were very cold with frost on 6 nights – even down to -2.9° in the early morning of the 8th. The monthly mean was only 8.6° making it the coldest April since 2001. James Lang Brown
