Global Spaces updates

www.glean.org.uk

The Global Spaces project is supported by GLEAN - Global Learning Network South West, which is funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) to improve and increase the global learning in schools and colleges.

The project is managed by Carymoor Environmental Trust. Facilitators from the Somerset Waste Action Programme (SWAP) are working with four schools - two in Somerset (Trinity Vale Primary and North Cabury Primary), and two in Bristol (Hillfields Primary and Parson Street Primary) to incorporate global learning as an ongoing element of the schools' educational programmes and school grounds development. The focus of the project has been the global dimension through food growing.

Download the most recent version of the schools' project plan here.

Project timeline:

29th January - Three of the four schools met for a planning day to discuss the project. Read the notes from the meeting here. North Cadbury Primary is working with Hillfields Primary and Trinity Vale Primary is working with Parson Street Primary.

1st March - Hillifields Primary worked with willow artist, Julie Starks, to create a multi-coloured peacock.

Growing days: Ruth and Beth (from Carymoor) visited North Cadbury Primary on 20th April and Hillfields Primary on 10th May to run growing days. The days were great fun and looked at different types of seed and crops from around the world before some practical planting sessions. The two schools have exchanged postcards.

Pictures from the Hillfields Primary visit (above) and North Cadbury (below).

North Cadbury Primary have developed a new willow structure (see below). Every child in the school planted one willow in the new structure. The willow work was part of their link with Hillfields Primary.

Parson Street Primary had their growing day on 24th May.

Parson Street Primary and Trinity Vale Primary children have swapped some postcards to get to know each other a little better. North Cadbury Primary have put together a treasure chest to send to Hillfields Primary, together with a selection of 'views from our windows'.

Trinity Vale worked with a willow artist on Friday 18th June to develop a fantastic friendship post. The children weaved in other materials with the willow.
