Carymoor
Volunteers
Volunteers are critical to our restoration programme and we are immensely
indebted to them for their hard work and happy attitude. We aim to give
to them an opportunity to explore their potential and pursue new fields
of interest.
We have an active weekly programme of practical volunteering at Carymoor
with groups meeting on Tuesdays, every other Wednesday morning and Friday
mornings.
These sessions draw in people from all walks of life and all age groups.
From youngsters who are being home tutored plus their parents, to those
who are now retired. The emphasis is on enjoyment and education as well
as the satisfaction of a task well done. A wide range of tasks are undertaken
- some more strenuous than others -from hay-raking to potting up wild
flowers and from tree-planting to worm charming.
We are also able to set up programmes of work for specific groups on a
regular or occasional basis, to date, these have included Millennium volunteers,
Learning Gateway, Mental Health Support Groups, university and college
conservation teams, summer camps and school activity days and environmental
days. Our volunteer teams are affiliated to BTCV which allows us to draw
on their expertise and use of additional tools if necessary. Tools, training
and home-made cake is provided with volunteers themselves providing the
enthusiasm.
Carymoor Wildlife Watch Group
A monthly Wildlife Watch Group is run at the centre. This is the junior
wing of the County Wildlife Trusts, with a target age of 8 to 12 year
olds, although older and younger children are also welcomed. This is an
exciting way to explore the surroundings and get closer to the wildlife
we share it with.
