Objectives

  • Increase awareness of biodiversity and sustainability
  • Conduct educational programmes on biodiversity and sustainability
  • Manage the land for wildlife and nature conservation
  • Provide the local community with an Agenda 21 activity centre

Carymoor was set up in 1996 by a small group of enthusiasts. The purpose of the centre was to run environmental education programmes. The start up phase was supported by Wyvern Waste Services Ltd (Changed to Viridor Waste Services in May 2006) through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme. The site is leased to Carymoor Environmental Centre and we have a land management agreement which provides core income to the Centre. Further Landfill Tax Credit Scheme funding for capital works and research is made available to Carymoor originating from Viridor Waste Services Ltd.

There is a well established nature reserve on site which is home to twenty seven different species of butterfly.
