Role-play—KS2 (Not suitable for KS1)

Pupils simulate and take part in a public meeting to determine the outcome of a site earmarked for a waste disposal facility. All pupils are given a role to take part in the meeting, with characters representing waste disposal companies, local residents, local clubs and environmental campaigning organisations. This exercise highlights some of the environmental issues involved with different waste disposal options and raises awareness that there are many social and political issues also involved.

Facilities For Much More: Wild Days Out

Those of you that have visited the site will no doubt agree that there's more to the place than a load of rubbish! From September 2008 the centre will be offering a programme of wildlife themed days to run alongside the existing and highly successful waste education programme. Aimed at foundation and key stage 1 groups, but also suitable for key stage 2, Carymoor's team of experienced field teachers will deliver exciting, hands-on days out using the extensive range of habitats and wildlife found at Carymoor. Activities on offer will change with the seasons and will be based around themes including minibeasts, the senses and colour and shape, using a variety of activities including guided walks, trails, games and arts & crafts. The days consist mostly of outdoor work but with indoor activities available for inclement weather. The exact programme for your day can be tailored to the needs of your group. Early booking is advised as spaces will be limited. To book your visit and plan your programme, please email Frances Stuart or phone 01963 350143
