Wild About Flowers Join us for a celebration of our blooming wild flora on a walk to see what’s in flower and who’s feeding on it. Herbalist Shelly Staple will be on hand to talk about the uses of some of the 450 wild flower species in our stock garden. There will also be a range of family friendly activities going on in and around the centre. Light refreshments available. Suitable outdoor clothing
Wed 16 June 10:30 – 15:30 Cultivating Well Being This event is part of an NHS funded project aimed at individuals who have suffered mental distress, to encourage them to get outdoors and join in with some practical volunteer tasks. The day offers a taste of some of the practical conservation activities undertaken at Carymoor, supported by our friendly and experienced staff. Sat 17 July 10:00 – 21:00 Wild Day at the Dump (For young adults: 16-25 year olds) Take part in a range of tasks including clay oven building, hay making and willow working. Your day of volunteering will be rewarded with an evening of feasting and live music. Wed 28 July 10:00 – 16:00 Wildlife Explorers Come and join our regular Wildlife Explorers family group for a day of crafts, games and outdoor activities on the themes of weather and the seaside. Thurs 5 Aug 10:30 – 12: 30 Highlighting Habitats Event: Butterflies A walk around Carymoor’s butterfly havens. With 29 of the 57 British species recorded at Carymoor this is an area of Carymoor’s work we are extremely proud of. Suitable outdoor clothing
Thurs 12 Aug 10: 30 – 12:30 Highlighting Habitats Event: Dragons and Damsels A tour of Carymoor’s wetland habitats that support not only invertebrates such as dragonflies and damsel flies but also amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals Suitable outdoor clothing
Thurs 19 Aug 10:30 – 12:30 Highlighting Habitats Event: Benefiting Birds Many of the habitats at Carymoor provide both food and shelter for a multitude of bird species. This walk will take in short grassland that is home to nesting skylarks, bird forage areas providing food for resident and over-wintering seed eaters such as the rare tree sparrow. Thurs 26 Aug 10:30 – 12:30 Highlighting Habitats Event: Life and Death in the Long Grass A closer look at the wide variety of biodiversity supported by our meadow habitats. From grasshoppers and crickets that fall prey to the rare wasp spider to field voles that are hunted by our resident barn owls, this seemingly peaceful habitat is the scene of many a struggle for survival. Somerset Art Works: Making Matters at Carymoor - development of ideas and taster session This Company of Voices project will bring together older and younger people, together with artist Fiona Campbell, to create an exciting art work inspired by Carymoor. Learn new creative skills and contribute towards a permanent art work created from recycled materials. This first session is to develop ideas and try them out. If you are aged between 12 - 25 or are 50 or older and would like to take part in this fun project we'd love to hear from you. No previous experience necessary, just enthusiasm!
Thurs 12 Aug/ Fri 13 Aug 10:00 - 16:30 Somerset Art Works: Making Matters at Carymoor - 1-day workshops Come along on either day to try out small pieces yourself and work towards making a larger installation as a group. For anyone aged between 12 - 25 or 50 and older. Numbers are limited so please book your place.  
Thurs 26 - Fri 27 Aug. Somerset Art Works: Making Matters at Carymoor - pulling it all together A smaller group of people who took part in the August workshops will work with the artist to pull the artwork together and get it ready to display on Sat 25 Sept during the Somerset Art Weeks  
Sat 25 Sept 10:00 – 14:00 Goats, Tigers and Elephants – a celebration of Somerset’s Moths This exploration of the weird and wonderful world of moths includes a range of moth-themed family friendly activities. Suitable outdoor clothing
