Carymoor Conservation Volunteers

Volunteers are critical to our management programme and we are immensely indebted to them for their hard work and happy attitude.

We have an active weekly programme of practical volunteering at Carymoor with groups meeting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

These sessions draw in people from all walks of life and all age groups. The emphasis is on enjoyment and education as well as the satisfaction of a task well done. A wide range of tasks are undertaken - some more strenuous than others - from hay-raking to potting up wild flowers and tree planting.

We are also able to set up programmes of work for specific groups on a regular or occasional basis. To date these have included Millennium Volunteers, Learning Gateway, Recovering Mental Health Support Groups, university and college conservation teams, summer camps and school activity days and environmental days. Tea, coffee, tools and all necessary training are provided. No previous experience necessary.

If you are interested in joining us we would love to hear from you! Email Julia Percy or phone her on 01963 350143.

Other volunteering opportunities

If tree planting and hay-raking is not for you, we're also looking for people who have a bit of time to spare to help us with activities taking place both at the centre and around the county. Whether you want to develop new skills or make use of existing ones there's bound to be an opportunity for you to get involved.

We'd be particularly interested to hear from anyone with an interest in wildlife that they're willing to share with school groups and families.

For further details and an informal chat call Frances Stuart or Julia Percy on 01963 350143

Carymoor Wildlife Explorers Group

A monthly Wildlife Explorers Group is run at the centre. This is the junior wing of the RSPB, with a target age of 8 to 12 year olds, although older and younger children are also welcomed. This is an exciting way to explore the surroundings and get closer to the wildlife that share it,with a mixture of activities, exploration of the site and themed games.

The group meets between 10:00 am and 12.30 pm on a Saturday and there is usually a waiting list.

If you are interested in joining in the fun we would love to hear from you. Email Julia Percy or phone her on 01963 350143.
